Who (Still) Goes There? Empty Who (Still) Goes There?

I don't know how many people are still paying enough attention to read this (or even notice it), but I just wanted to wish whoever was a happy holiday.

I know it's been forever and then some, and I can easily forgive anyone who thought I'd given up on the project and disappeared as so many have before me, but I assure you nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, my esteemed cadre and I have been toiling away behind the scenes to get all the boring but necessary drudgework done in preparation to 'get the band back together' so to speak, or in a worst case scenario get a new band together in the event none of the old one can be found and/or still wish to contribute (which would make me sad, since this was a great team). My original intention was to have everything ready to get started fresh around the first of the year but, as so often happens with me, reality got in the way in the form of my dangerously overfull drive (as in having less than 02% free space, something which I'm sure all you Windows users out there know is a bad thing! *nodnod*), but as soon as I can afford the time and monetary expense to get it upgraded things should go fairly quickly.

In the meantime, I'd appreciate it if everone who's still out there could give me a heads up and let me know if you're still interested in helping. And since that's probably going to take a while (I figure I'm most likely the only person who still checks the forum every day, even if it wasn't the holiday season), here's some entertainment while we wait: the Dead Fantasy ladies singing Girls Generation's hit, Gee. Enjoy. santa

Who (Still) Goes There? Empty Re: Who (Still) Goes There?

Hey all (he said, still clinging to the hope that someone might actually read this), just wanted to wish everyone a happy New Year. Very Happy

I know a lot of people would be disheartened by a week-long lack of response, or of any activity whatsoever for that matter, but I'm not going to be, especially under these circumstances. Due to their close proximity, a lot of people treat Christmas and New Years as either ends of a single indissoluble holiday and fill the entire week or more with activities related to family, travel and/or debauchery and any and all possible combinations of the three. As such, it's not only possible but likely that even if someone had been checking the forum every day religiously before (which I think we all know no one but me actually was) they would have been far too preoccupied over the last week or more and could conceivably remain so for the next week or more as well. So I'll continue to work on the game as best I can, get my computer issues resolved and then keep working on it, all while waiting patiently on the off chance that someone might eventually pop back in. But you know what? Even if no one ever does, I will not be deterred.

I know I haven't been a very good leader for this project. Due to a myriad of reasons, some of which weren't my fault and many of which were, it's dragged on and on with no visible progress and only my say-so that there's been any INvisible progress. Good people have come on board, gotten disgusted and left. But I didn't quit in the face of the issues that prompted me to break away from the old forum and start a new one in the first place, I didn't quit in the face of any of the minor, major or seemingly insurmountable stumbling blocks that came up afterwards, and I have no intention of quitting now. I'll keep working on SimBro, with as much or as little help as is offered me, until either I die (which, given my general bad health and incredibly bad luck, is always an option I suppose) or it's done.

While I wasn't paying attention, others have taken up the standard and ran with it, even if most of them seem to be running in place, into a minefield or just plain off into left field somewhere. There are currently 6 different versions of SimBro v1.5-2.5 that I'm aware of, ranging from the average to the awful to the flat-out weird (SimBro the RPG? Really? I don't know what you're smoking but puff, puff, pass brother! *snork*). None of them, in my opinion anyway, seem to be in any danger of actually getting it right so the need for a really good version of SimBro still exists. I plan to fill that need, alone if I have to but hopefully with the help and support of a really great team.

It would of course be truly unfortunate if none of the old team wished to continue working on the game or, worse yet, were willing to continue but got so tired of waiting that they never noticed we were almost ready to get started again. It was a good group and even the ones I didn't always agree with or personally get along with had a lot of intriguing ideas and a genuine desire to see SimBro become the best it could be and that's exactly what the project needed most. And still does. Whether any or all of them return or have moved on, never to be heard from again, I hope they at least realize how valuable and important their contributions have been and how much I appreciate them for it. Smile
